Impact

Impact is a youth group for young people ages 12-18 that is loaded with laughter, love, a sense of family, and the teaching of the Word of God.

My wife and I have been running the youth group now since around 2014. Impact was her invention and it’s been the source of many good times, many extraordinarily fun times, apple picking adventures, hikes, a crazy zip-lining trip, and trips to see Christian music artists like TobyMac and Unspoken. Our Shaine Lymn Memorial Youth Building has a pool table, a Foosball table, a ping pong table, an arcade style set of basketball hoops, surprisingly intense and rowdy board games, and a Nintendo Wii game console, but aside from these sources of competition and entertainment, we know how to invent fun from our imaginations!

Our youth group would not be what it is if it wasn’t for our annual 5-day summer camp in August and our annual 3-day winter camp called “Oasis” in February. Both of these camps take place at Camp Pinnacle in Voorheesville, NY, close to 1 hour and 15 minutes from West Oneonta.

These camps are life changing. These kids, as well as us, encounter the power of God in a big way. Apart from dodge ball, basketball, volleyball, outdoor games, outdoor survival courses, snow tubing, and you name it, we have powerful worship experiences that do miracles inside the hearts of these kids! The preaching of the Word is always deeply meaningful, applicable, and moving. To see young people praying for one another is an amazing sight to see. At these camps, these kids feel a freedom to let God speak to them. They feel a freedom to be vulnerable and have a visible reaction to the Word.
